Hess Corporation began selling toy trucks at branded gas stations in 1964 to offer families a fun, high-quality, and affordable toy for the holidays. The tradition continues more than 50 years later as the trucks have become a hallmark of the holiday season and a highly sought-after collectible.
The truck is consistently among the largest selling toys in the country each year, and Hess has transitioned from selling them through its gas stations to now selling them exclusively online.
Enhanced Online Store Ready for Holiday Rush
Scalability and stability are crucial for handling high-traffic volumes and processing hundreds of orders per minute during the limited selling window each holiday season. Hess engaged Perficient to enhance and manage its Adobe Commerce site that provides the exclusive distribution for these in-demand toys.
When the new holiday toy truck site launched, the platform successfully handled high-traffic volumes and order processing. Hess saw a record level of first-day orders that exceeded its sales projections by 2X.

After analyzing historical online data and offline sales data, we understood how to enhance the platform so it could accommodate Hess’ present needs and future commerce growth in a secure and stable environment.
